Fiona Bastow - Original & Fine Art Prints

Fiona uses the materiality of paint to play with the interface between abstract and representational art; often blurring, dissolving and partly erasing the image on the canvas. Shadows, silhouettes and reflections emerge from layers of saturated colour, with her recent work focussing on the psychological effects of light and colour, particularly when experienced in the natural world.

‘I am fascinated how the lengthening shadows on a winter’s evening can evoke a melancholic feeling, in contrast to the hope and optimism that is stirred by the poetic glints of morning sunlight’.

Fiona has a BA in Fine Arts (Painting), RMIT (2000) and has exhibited in solo and group shows in Australia (as well as in the US whilst on a university exchange scholarship). She has worked in various positions in the visual arts sector, ranging from the art facilitator at Darwin Prison to recently running her own gallery. She currently resides on the Sunshine Coast with her husband and two daughters.
