For Juanita Van Den Bergh, art has never simply been something she does. It has been a way of seeing, interpreting and making sense of the world for as long as she can remember.

A contemporary Australian artist, Juanita’s practice has evolved through a lifelong and instinctive relationship with colour, texture, materials and gesture. Her work sits between abstraction and expressionism, exploring the tension between control and spontaneity. Layering paint, mark making and unexpected materials, she creates works that are intuitive, tactile and emotionally charged.

Her artistic journey has never been linear. Curiosity and experimentation continually lead her in new directions, with the physical process of making remaining central to her work. She is drawn to rawness, texture and the traces left behind as a painting evolves.

This same instinct has shaped her journey as a curator.

As a founding partner of Studio One Noosa, Juanita has developed a parallel practice in curatorship, gallery direction and artist development. Her philosophy is that a gallery should be more than a place to display art, it should create meaningful connections between artists, collectors, designers and the wider community.

Her Curator’s Choice direction reflects this increasingly personal vision: a considered selection of artists and works chosen for their originality, emotional resonance and ability to create a genuine connection with the viewer.

The two worlds | artist and curator | continually inform one another. Working with artists and collectors feeds her own studio practice, while being an artist shapes the way she looks at, supports and presents the work of others.

Juanita is particularly interested in the relationship between art, architecture, interiors and lifestyle, believing that art can do more than complete a space, it can fundamentally shape how that space feels.

For Juanita, there is no real divide between the studio and the gallery. The studio informs the gallery, the gallery informs the studio ... both are driven by a lifelong curiosity about art and the extraordinary ways it can make us see the world differently.
