Among the Thorns

I have always loved roses and loved to grow them, pick them and  watch their velvet buds as they spread open to reveal their intricate form. Their fragility and delicate numerous petals often hold sensuous perfume.

 I have tried to let my brush portray the many stages of growth as the bush shows its glory.  

The rose bushes need careful attention before one tries to grab a stem and pick it for pleasure, as Nature protects its beauty with hazardous thorns which are often hard to see as the stems gradate and colours of brown and green camouflage the hidden sharpness. A certain delicacy is needed to avoid being cut before taking the stem to add to vases.

Roses are abundant in their flowering season and often cover the bush with a prolific number of blooms.

The flowers painted here are the colour of the sunshine they need to grow and they protrude from the tangle of stems and thorns as Nature intended.
