On the Cusp of Spring

Tara Lorel Stower is a Noosa-based artist whose work explores the relationship between nature, light, and atmosphere.

Working across oils, acrylics and watercolour, her paintings move between realism and abstraction, drawing inspiration from the Australian landscape, birdlife, botanicals, and the ever-changing qualities of light. From luminous dark backgrounds to layered, expressive compositions, her work seeks to capture both the beauty of the natural world and the emotions it evokes.

Grounded in careful observation, Tara's practice reflects a fascination with the subtle shifts that occur in nature - changing seasons, moving light, drifting foliage and the quiet transitions that shape our experience of place. Through a balance of detail, movement, and atmosphere, she invites viewers to pause, reflect and reconnect with the beauty often found in fleeting moments.

Based in Sunrise Beach, Noosa, Tara continues to develop a distinctive body of work that celebrates nature, connection and the gentle transformations that occur over time.

Inspiration

On the Cusp of Spring is part of a new body of work exploring the space between abstraction and nature.

Inspired by the changing seasons and the quiet beauty of the Australian landscape, this series combines expressive abstract backgrounds with delicate botanical elements. The layered compositions allow colour, movement, and texture to create a sense of atmosphere, while the leaves and branches provide a connection to the natural world.

For me, these works reflect the subtle transitions we experience throughout life - moments of growth, possibility, and renewal. Just as nature moves gently from one season to the next, this painting captures a feeling of optimism and anticipation, standing on the threshold of something new.
